Ben McMurtrie is a NYC based artist who considers his music to be and abstract form of conventional musical themes. There's always a controversial or careless response to music that's freely indulgent. This is just a documented look inside one's own personal musical interests or tendencies.

Previous projects include a self-produced track on "For The Love Of Todd" tribute CD on Third Lock Records. As a producer, McMurtrie has credits such as "Lullabuys From Around The World" by Uta and many other diverse acts that he has worked with in his studio called Cyber Sound. As an engineer, he worked with dozens of acts at a studio called Home Base. The artists ranged from The Violent Fems to Harp legend Toots Thielemans. Ben is also credited with mixing an old Genesis concert for The King Buiscuit Flower Hour. Although he is really a guitar player, Ben is definately a self-contained artist doing all the instrumentation and sequencing on all his projects to date. He has always played guitar in various bands since age 13. In the 80's he played for a band called Aria, which did some gigs in Pennsylvania. Soon after, recording became very appealing and after attending a couple recording workshops, and working in local studios in college, he moved to New York.

Entering the New York recording scene in the late 80's, work began at a reputable studio called Secret Sound Studio. Engineering was a great foundation to gain with the likes of great musicians like Willie Nile, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Mike Stern, Don Alias, and Steve Jordan among many others. Secret Sound became Home Base Studios and that's when the music scene was changing. Home Base shut down, then Cyber Sound was set up. Ben began working with some hip-hop and trans music in the MIDI studio. By the time the early 90's kicked in, he had gotten into sound on film (optical film soundtrack development), which was more lucrative, which in turn allowed Cyber Sound to move into a bigger space.

From 1993 until the end of the 90's, everything was put into Cyber Sound Studio. McMurtrie worked with clients ranging from rockers to rappers, commercials to voice-overs. His production company at the time, Continuity Productions, financed the first self-titled CD release in 1996. There is also an article written on him in an issue of Black and White magazine. Some of this time was spent playing and performing with other musicians as a guitar player. By the end of the 1990's, his second CD release was finished and released. In 2000, there were many shows to promote this at various clubs and coffee houses.

With the turn of the new millenium, Ben did video production on some videos for Lou Christie, Steve Marshall Band, Hard Attack, and many others. This was partially due to his involvement with a digital media company that specializes in post production. In 2004 work began on the third CD Fuse, expected to be released by the end of 2008. This 4-year period was also busy from projects with reputable New York musicians and theatre personas. Optimism is high and thus goes the pursuit of happiness and enthusiasm with each new project that will always take shape.
